The
Woman Who Willed a Miracle
(1983) Cloris Leachman A true story of the miraculous power of love. A older woman and
her husband want a child and adopt a retarded infant who has a very dim
prognosis. His adopted mother struggles day after day, working hard
to break through to him. Through the sheer force of her love for
him, she maintains her constant vigil of hope. Then one night something
very wonderful happens. After retiring for the evening the parents are
awakened by the sound of the piano playing downstairs. She can't
believe her eyes as she sees her son - who was given no hope - playing
concert piano in imitation of the music she had played for him before!
He had recalled the music and was able to translate it to the piano.
A 'savant', or a miracle - you decide! Cloris Leachman's finest role. Very
inspiring story.

It's
A Wonderful Life
(1946) Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed Academy Award Nominations: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (James Stewart), Best Editing, Best Sound. Growing up in the quiet little town of Bedford Falls, George Bailey
has big dreams of getting away and seeing the world. As fate would
have it, his dreams were not to be realized as he is obliged to take over
his father's savings and loan company to prevent being taken over by the
'big money' of the town. Though he finds happiness when he marries
and settles down to raise a family, he is beset by an unfortunate string
of bad luck, which threatens to become the town scandal. Unable to
cope with the tremendous disappointments and the iminent threat of failure
and jail, George decides he is worth more dead than alive. Standing on
a bridge on the Eve of Christmas he contemplates his miseries and how cold
the water is. As Divine Will would have it, his guardian angel is
sent to intervene and save his life. George is given a unique gift of seeing
first hand what the world would be like had he not been born. This
classic gem superbly played by Jimmy Steward is wonderfully told with a
humor and sensitivity rarely - if ever - found in films produced today.

Brother
Sun, Sister Moon
(1973) Graham Faulkner, Judi Bowker, Valentina Cortese Filmmaker Franco Zeffirelli (Endless Love) adds his own 'Flower Power' 60s style philosophy to the conversion story of St. Francis of Assisi. It's a shame that the film director didn't think the real story of this great saint's life was interesting enough to be told truthfully. (So it goes with Hollywood). If you do decide to see this film, we strongly recommend reading St. Francis' real-life biography so as not to be mislead! Caution: there are a couple of nudity scenes. St. Francis of Assisi is a true Prince and pillar of the Catholic Church.
He was given the gift of the Stigmata and suffered Christ's wounds in his
body for many years. (Not revealed in this movie). St. Francis had a very
true and deep devotion to Our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament. (Also
not revealed). The truth is, his real-life story is beyond anything
Hollywood would ever dare produce today!
